Using the Capitol Theatre

Booking of the Capitol Theatre shall be on a first come, first served basis. Deposits are required to reserve a date.

All school groups, including dance schools, bands, orchestras, choirs and drama groups must be accompanied by their teachers.

Daily rentals are 8 hours - a supper break for Capitol Technicians of one hour will be built in to the setup schedule. Cast and crew will not be allowed in the theatre during that time: if other Capitol staff are present, they may be able to stay in the dressing rooms.

Scheduling your rental time is extremely important. Our technicians plan their hours accordingly. They must also plan for maintenance of the theatre and other rentals when organizing their time. A schedule should be submitted to our technician at least three weeks prior to your rental. Hours added to the contract within two weeks of the rental will be charged at $70/hr and booked only if we have a technician available to work the extra time.

Up to 25 complimentary tickets will not be charged box office fee; the renter organization will be charged $1.25 for each complimentary ticket in excess of 25 per rental.

A damage deposit is to be required on all rentals.

Groups requiring the use of technical equipment will work under the supervision of Capitol Theatre staff, regardless of whether the group provides its own crew. At no time will the theatre be used without Capitol staff in attendance.

Office hours of the Capitol are 10:00 - 4:30 pm from Tuesday to Friday. The box office is open 12 - 4:30 on those days.

Sets should be struck and removed immediately after the last performance unless arrangements have been made in advance with the Technical Director. Such arrangements are dependent on the use of the theatre following the rental.

Seating capacity for the theatre is 426 persons, enforced by the Capitol management as required by the Nelson Fire Department.

Every event in the theatre is required to have a designated stage manager and production manager, who are responsible for general safety on the stage and maintaining communication with the technical crew.

Rental Groups must designate someone who is aware of the terms of the contract and who will be at the theatre at all times during the rental period as a liaison for theatre staff and performers.

The lessee is responsible for all associated fees when using copyrighted material, and should be aware that SOCAN fees are payable (to SOCAN directly) for all music not in the public domain.

Fire is not permitted in any form in the theatre (as ordered by the Nelson Fire Department).

**Community rates are reduced to reflect the City of Nelson's annual grant
